Posted By: Gringo - Tuesday, January 15, 2008 8:41 AM
To herald X-Play's new daily format, Morgan Webb joined G4tv.com for an informal, informative chat last night. The full transcript is below.
Don't miss our next chat with Adam Sessler on Wednesday, Jan 16th (that's tomorrow, folks!) at 8:30PM ET / 5:30PM PT.
ASK_MORGAN: Welcome to G4TV.com's chat with X-Play's very own Morgan Webb!
ladybird: wuts different about the show now?
MORGAN_WEBB: We wanted to expand the show to cover more than just reviews. We still have the patented X-play reviews, but it was important to us to bring you topical information as well
MORGAN_WEBB: You'll hear about the gaming news of that day, learn about new games that are coming out
MORGAN_WEBB: As well as get cheats from Kristin Holt
MORGAN_WEBB: We're really excited to do this, we've been wanting to create this show forever, and we're so glad G4 gave us the opportunity
uhhuh: What's your favorite newly released game?
MORGAN_WEBB: there were so many great games out in the last few months, we were rewarded for all our patience during the long dry summer months
MORGAN_WEBB: I of course love RTS's, though I couldn't get into the latest command and conquer. I am a big supreme commander fan, though it can be hard on the hands
MORGAN_WEBB: Of course Bioshock was an amazing game, winner of game of the year from xplay, and I know okami wasn't that recent but it will always be one of my favorites.
sean80: What's Ms. Webb's favorite new feature that has been added to X-Play?
MORGAN_WEBB: my favorite part is how we're able to be topical. we've always wanted to be able to report on the news, and talk about how it's going to impact gamers everywhere. Now we can do that! Before, only Attack of the Show could be really topical. we were always jealous
Kika2002: Will X-Play keep the original 5 star format?
MORGAN_WEBB: of course! We're big believers in the 5 star format. When someone rates a game an 8.57 out of ten, or an 85.7 out of 100, it just adds confusion. We don't think scores need decimal points - there is always a bit of subjectivity to video games, we feel if we give you good information about the pros and cons, then give an overall score, we've helped you more than just giving a complicated numerical score. We have the advantage that we can show you what we mean, where other sites just try to describe what they've seen
MORGAN_WEBB: The 10 point scale also seems a bit extraneous. We're trained from school days to think of a 7.0 as average, and anything before that as failing, so the 1.0-6.0 scores just mean failing, and people don't play them
Piercing: Hi Morgan my name is Stephen and I am a huge fan, my quuestion is what is the first new game of 2008 that you are excited about playing?? Keep up the great work
MORGAN_WEBB: Super smash brothers brawl!!! It's coming pretty soon now
MORGAN_WEBB: I'm a bit of a fangirl, nintendo does well with its franchises, so I expect it to be a good (though not necessarily deep) game that will be fun to pick up and play with friends
uhhuh: What's your favorite console so far this generation?
MORGAN_WEBB: Everyone here at xplay is pretty console independent really. Part of it is that we all own all of the consoles, because it's important for our job
MORGAN_WEBB: but realistically, the point of a console is to be an agent through which a game is played, meaning the game is more important than the console. If you're trying to pick a console, look at the games that are available on each, then decide which console has more games that appeal to you
Bluraven79: high Morgan! How are you? My question for you is, what system holds the most nostalgia for you?
MORGAN_WEBB: I had the atari and the nintendos and the segas when I was a kid, but for some reason I really have a warm spot in my heart for the dreamcast
MORGAN_WEBB: maybe it was project seaman, maybe it was crazy taxi (I know I was the only one who liked that game) but I really enjoyed the dreamcast
Bluraven79: What would be your favorite Non-gaming hobby/subject?
MORGAN_WEBB: I really enjoy learning about science, I find topics in biology especially interesting, and I have always been interested in insects.
MORGAN_WEBB: I have been interested in computers for many years, and have recently enjoyed making some robot kits
MORGAN_WEBB: I also enjoy editing for webbalert, my video blog. I was a producer for years but now I am enjoying the ability to get more creative and be hands on with my final product
grimtodd: fave x-play moment ever?
MORGAN_WEBB: I hope tonight will be my favorite x-play moment, we're really proud of what we've done and I hope you guys like it.
MORGAN_WEBB: I think my second favorite is the tony little segment we did
MORGAN_WEBB: that one was awesome. I was watching it be taped and I couldn't stop laughing. He was so nice and easy to work with
Sunbun[PG]: If you were stranded on an island with your choice of three things, which three would they be?
MORGAN_WEBB: I would take a kindle so I would have every book ever written (eventually)
MORGAN_WEBB: A house because I fear the sun, so I have to stay inside
MORGAN_WEBB: and a shotgun to survive the coming zombie assault
MORGAN_WEBB: To Spooie: Wade Beckett says Hi and Thanks
MORGAN_WEBB: later thanks for coming guys! There were lots of great questions so I appreciate your time and thoughts
ASK_MORGAN: Thanks for joining us for G4tv.com's chat with Morgan Webb...come back Wednesday for Adam Sessler's chat at 8:30PM ET / 5:30PM PT! Now, go tune in to G4 and watch the unveiling of X-Play's new daily show at 8PM ET! Thanks, Morgan! Bye, everyone!
MORGAN_WEBB: I hope you enjoy the show tonight
